Angry Am I the only one who think GIMP or Krita are unusable?

Am I the only one who can't use GIMP or Krita because they do things in completely unlogical way, becuse they are so user-unfriendly?

OMG, why can't someone make clone of Photoshop?! At least some version from 10 years ago, like v 5.5 or something? Just clone... without inventing the hot water, just clone it?

For me it is absolutely impossible to use this applications. For someone who used photoshop a lot in the past, everything looks upside down.

    Am I the only one?

It does work. though it is not as powerful as photoshop. The impression that it is not friendly is not too acceptable. It is by the user who uses the app.
If you start working in gimp and think it as gimp not photoshop and disregard
all photoshop thinking while using it you will be able to start adopting to this new gimp environment. This is speaking through experience. Before I was used to making architectural 3d in acad and when I tried sketchup I found it hard at first because I always think of using the acad commands.

    Just my sincere 2-cents

    On a side note:
Maybe, this one should be in the soapbox section
People who do not break things first will never learn to create anything

Yes, I know this. It was the same when I passed from Win to Suse... however, it is DIFFICULT. To make some simple operations like pasting to layer from clipboard, creates some "floating" layer which I cant do much unless I make 20 clicks over the menu... I mean, spending 2 hours just trying to make a "tab" look like in Flock...

Some things are driving me crazy... if I make selection, shouldn't one click on image deselect it? It is like this in all graphics applications made on this planet, except in GIMP...

In my opinon, GIMP should serve as an example HOW NOT to make program.
It is powerful, but that is no use if you need to forget everything you knew before, and learn how to use same tools on different way.
Looks like if you design a hammer that can strike the nail only upwards.

    Hi
As a novice GIMP user (Had to make a photo mosaic for the desktop). If
I cut and paste a photo as a layer and then give the layer a name
then all is calm in gimp land. You can then click on the layer and
do anything you want to it.

Maybe they could make a Xmas video how the gimp stole photoshop?

Not sure what you want to do with the layer, but I usually use the merge
down. You could always open a new window and edit what you want the layer
to look like and then copy it into the other project as a new layer, then
merge the two. It's not that hard, just different.

Interesting, I've always used the anchor layer option.

Yes, this is true. The reason is that Gimp, in my opinion, never went through the hands of critically-minded developer, who would improve the user interface.

In fact, there were no significant developments in user interface since years. There was some additional package to improve the interface, but I don't know what happened to it.

Somebody needs to listen to the voice of unhappy users, and improve the interface. The ignorance of this side, embedded in the application by authors, was never corrected.

Thats exactly what photoshop and other proprietary programs are, hammers that can only be swung one way. One Way and one way only.

The Gimp on the other hand being open source can be swung up, down, sideways.......................

Really sucks when those proprietary application/software companies achieve their goal of locking you into "one way" of doing things to the point that you will never conceive that their are other and better ways to do things.

For instance why can't photoshop be changed to behave like other applications, because I don't like the photoshop way of doing things.

The Gimp on the other hand can be made into whatever you want if you wish to change it. For instance gimpshop. PackMan :: Package details for gimpshop

Like any app you just have to use them for awhile.
I used to hate GIMP, but I love it now.

GIMP is NOT Photoshop and does not try to be - you really need to just ignore Photoshop thinking and try it "out of the box" like you've never used image-manipulation software in your prior life! Then you will eventually understand it and love it. By the way, GIMP is FREE and a real Photoshop program costs $500 US dollars! So stop complaining!
