.dat
is not a multi-media file

so,…how to play it my video in opensuse

Is this a file from an SVCD or a VCD? If so, create the SVCD or VCD and play it that way. …

If you have preserved the precise directory structure from an SVCD or VCD, then it is possible you can play “the directory” from an application like vlc.

If you are copying this from an SVCD or VCD, then use an appropriate ripping tool.

i am not shure but if you rename your .dat file to .mpg it also should play…

acording wikipedia

VCD uses mpeg-1 codec

I thought that on Linux DE’s: file type are not extensions driven, but instead MIME type driven.
It is why you can have a text file or image with no extension at all, and still able to open them with the appropriate software.

I think the problem described here is related to some libraries/codecs not present on the system. Please take a look at this: Restricted Formats/11.0 - openSUSE-Community
