New OpenSuse User misses the Remind Software

Hi all,

This is my first post.

After some DistroHopping I’m back and cuddling with the Chameleon.
I have used Suselinux back in the late 90’ties and was switching back to linux 2 years ago.

I have just switched from Ubuntu 8.04 to OpenSuse 11.0 and I must say that I’m impressed, the Gnome Desktop works exactly as expected.

Now I’m trying to recreate my desktop, but one thing is missing though !

Where is remind ??

Remind is a famous calendaring software that together with Gxmessage always have providing me with reminders and todo’s.

I have these repo’s enabled:

Now I am in doubt about what to do now, I’m not sure it would be a good idea to just grab the nearest .rpm available, because remind works like a daemon and should be placed correctly in the filesystem to work properly.

Anyone here have any hints ?

You may not be aware of the ‘build service’ so have a search here for
remind;

You can get rid off some repo’s here.
You have the OSS, non-OSS and the packman repo twice.

does this work for opensuse 12.1 gnome? tried using using 1click install. it just opens up an installing wizard and it just stays dumb der. do i have install anything else from the repos??? am new to opensuse. used to use windows.

-=WELCOME=- new poster, but be careful you are in a 4 year old
thread, in which the question is about a what appears to be an old
command line program for a version of openSUSE which met its end of life
in 30 months ago…

I’ve just checked the matter in YaST2. In the standard repo “Oss”,
there is “remind”. In stead of using the 1-Click Install, fire up YaST2;
and search for “remind”.
There is “wyrd”: ‘Text-based front-end to Remind time organizer’.
(This package needs “tclib”; but that is taken care of.)

It does not matter if you use GNOME, KDE, Openbox, etc. to use this
program. I tried “remind” before but I gave up. It’s not simple to use.
Anyway, many programs that are installed in your computer do not appear
in the standard menu.

There’s “gtg”: ‘Getting Things GNOME! (GTG) is a personal organizer for
the GNOME desktop environment inspired by the Getting Things Done (GTD)
methodology’. You may want to try this. It’s in the standard Oss repo.
