Default Fatal error occurs at kde startup

    Hi guys,
I previously had opensuse 11 with factory build kde (4.0). I also have compiz effects enabled. I decided to upgrade kde to 4.1.3. First of all, I disabled compiz and switched to kwin. Then I successfully updated kde and all dependencies too. At next reboot kde starts loading and finally give me an error as follows and leaves me with nothing but a blank screen.

    A fatal error occured
The application plasma workspace (plasma) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)

I am not able to post log here because my windows partitions are not writable. How can I change these permissions from failsafe root login? I am not familiar with any linux commands..
Can you guys please help me out?

    Login to icewm
open a terminal and do this:

    mv /home/uernme/.kde4 .kde4old

    now try kde4 again

    Good. Well done.

    Just to say:
going by your re-name - you will probably find the old folder is now not hidden as you didn't include a .

    mv /home/akshay/.kde4 /home/akshay/kde4old
    see the difference

Yeah I got that. Thanks.. I have one more question, I hope you don't mind asking it here.

To access my windows partitions to write data in it, I have to everytime start sudo file manager.

Is there any workaround for this?? I want to access my windows partitions with write permissions as normal user.

Thanks again, changed my fstab accordingly and now my windows partitions are also writable by normal users.

There is a slightly lighter way to solve the fatal error of the plasma workspace. Delete the plasmarc and plasma-appletrc files in .kde4/share/config/ folder. This only resets the plasma to default and not all the other kde4 apps
