Thread: WINE ??

  1. #1

    Default WINE ??

I installed Suse 10.3 on my one PC. The other is having UBUNTU.
Like in Ubuntu, Wine and Samba get listed on the menu.

Can we do the same and how do I start wine in Open SUSE.

    Please suggest.

Wine is not an application having GUI.

The wine menu item only stores shortcuts to the applications installed via wine.

The difference between ubuntu and openSUSE here is ubuntu creates wine menu as soon as you install wine whereas in openSUSE you have to install atleast one application via wine to get it.

To expand on the post above, to install the first application simply navigate to the right folder then the next step depends on if you're using KDE or Gnome.

    KDE:
Simply hit f4 to bring up the console in Dolphin

    Gnome:
Rightclick in the folder and select the option "Open this folder in the terminal" or something like that.. been a while since I used gnome.

    Then type in:
    Code:
    wine [application name]
where application name and the brackets should be replace by the name of the file you want to run prolly some .exe
Special effects <- KDE 4.2 Showing off
    More KDE -> PINK KDE

I also am trying to use WINE, have been opening a Terminal, navigating to the Windows folder and then -

    wine program.exe

I get the following error -

"Please ensure that your X server is running and that $DISPLAY is set correctly". X is running in the background by the way.

I am using an older version of OpenSUSE, 9.1, but assume it operates the same.

Hi, don't run it as root (su, kdesu etc). Run it as user.

Tried to install Dreanweaver, but got the error: preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00000000-60000000
wine: could not load L"c\windows\\system32\\Dreamweaver.exe": Module not found

Also while trying to install Paintshop Pro, it asks for previous version of the PSP, whereas the file is a clean install and not upgrade.

You can only use Dreamweaver up to 8 later versions don't work yet. Not sure about Paintshop pro but Photoshop cs2 works. Though as with Dreamweaver later version don't has to do with the way they use scripting

    Greetings-

I have installed wine and read the previous posts. I am interested in trying to install the software for my Dell Axim handheld pocket pc. Does anybody know if this will allow my Linux machine to see the Axim?
