Default why do I need the opensuse disk to install software?

I am wondering why I am asked to use the OpenSuse disk inorder to install some software eg, vlc player.
and is there away that I can set up Opensuse so that I don't have to dig out my disk to install certain software?

Make sure that you have the main repo enabled in YaST, then disable the DVD "repo".
