Hey there, I might be wrong but it’s worth a try. When using the make command, I think you have to be logged in as root, so before starting to build the program, use the command:

su root

then try running the commands.

Dan

hmm, now i installed it, but how do i set it as primary windowmanager?

have you checked the sessions menu before log-in ? Or YaST - System - /etc/sysconfig Editor,then click on Desktop - window manager DEFAULT_WM & change to whichever

Andy

Feel its a bit late to put this comment in here, but thought it was better than raising a new thread with the same issue…

openSuse 11.4, kernal sources, syms, gcc all… and i do get the same error (even when run as root ,sudo make)

"Image.cc:1350:42: error: ‘memcpy’ was not declared in this scope

can i please get some help?

Found out the solution by just reading up “memcopy c++” through google and when looked into the code library files (in this case Image.cc, Resource.cc) fixed them and ran make as su. Hit another one, which looks like a code issue again. Can someone help out here because my C++ skils = 10/100

the error

Util.cc:197:64: error: ‘std::string bt::textPropertyToString(Display*, XTextProperty&)’ should have been declared inside 'bt

the code which looks not so right interms of declarations, could be wrng

**std::string bt::textPropertyToString(::Display *display,
::XTextProperty& text_prop) {
std::string ret;
**

if (text_prop.value && text_prop.nitems > 0) {
if (text_prop.encoding == XA_STRING) {
ret = reinterpret_cast<char *>(text_prop.value);
} else {
text_prop.nitems = strlen(reinterpret_cast<char *>(text_prop.value));

  char **list;
  int num;
  if (XmbTextPropertyToTextList(display, &text_prop,
                                &list, &num) == Success &&
      num > 0 && *list) {
    ret = *list;
    XFreeStringList(list);
  }
}

}

return ret;
}

HI,

Sorry I can’t help you, but I think you should post that question in the Developement forum…

despite previous posts in this thread to the contrary, you should not
run make (or the preceding configure) as root…always run those as a
simple user, in your home directory and THEN when you get to

make install

switch to root…

well, you must switch to root to do the install if you want the
program available to all system users…if you just want it available
to the user who is compiling it, then run the install as that user and
all executables etc will be placed in that users home…

check around…

This “memcpy” issue has been reported to the developers (2010-11-04):

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3103029&group_id=40696&atid=428680

Yeah, I got the same error two days ago, while experimenting with
various window managers. Unlike you, I did not go any further.

Done, lets see. It looks more like a blackbox code issue, but was hoping if someone has seen this before, or someone might hope its helpful.
New Thread : Blackbox WM installation issue

Hi denverd, Sorry didnt see this, but had tried this as.

this was the first step where I always ran make as myself… but then somewhere the methods “spaghetti-ed” itself!.. but nevertheless, have tried this.

I do think its a code issue, which i would have thought lot of people would have seen… because beleive people do use it.

I need a WM with a low footprint on my machine (1GB, atom netbook) and am hoping will solve my main issue : Choppy Flash videos for sites other than youtube.
Midori so far is the best performing of all the browsers, which lead me to think that, lower the WM footprint… maybe i can get a flash to render/stream faster :slight_smile:

As i mentioned to DenverD… I am marching ahead and come back and update this thread, incase you might be interested in the future! :slight_smile:

i can’t fault your logic, but imHo, the problem is Flash itself
(mostly) and it interaction with your graphics

now it MIGHT be possible to squeeze enough more performance out of
your atom/graphics team to get smoooth…but, i’d bet your smile
would come quicker if Adobe put that pig named Flash on a treadmill…

by the way i just installed a new version of flash here this morning
(just appeared in the update repo) and i’ve not had it lock up or fail
yet…so . . .

rotfl!rotfl!.. definitely, that needs to be the way to go… but i guess at the moment am getting somewhere with the blackbox WM with some help from Malcolm from the development team. And i think, now its more about getting it to work more than getting flash to work! :wink:

Also with Malcolms help, have a src blackbox package now… so lets see how it goes!
And thanks for the update about flash, will see if there is some improvement :slight_smile:
