Thread: USB keyboard not working on Suse 11.0

Angry USB keyboard not working on Suse 11.0

    Hi,

This is a problem I have posted on earlier, but have not found a solution. I installed Suse 11.0 on a AMD 64 bit computer. I also have a USB keyboard connected, and a USB mouse, connected with a PS/2 connector.

After installation I was able to use my system. But at the moment I cannot use my keyboard. And changing anything in my configuration just became a challenge, as I have to input a password, using a non existing keyboard (my current configuration starts up without having to input a password).

Anyone have a solution for me?

    Abel,

    Suggestions tried:
    - Boot with the keyboard not plugged in. When started, plug in keyboard, and use it. No success.

make sure that USB support is enabled in the BIOS, if not, try using an old keyboard then plugging in the USB one. Sounds like a BIOS problem tho.

In yast is a option hardware info can you find you're keybord over there ?
When the system startup depending on you're system you have to press a key to get the Bios message did you're keyboard comes
    up ?

I looked into my BIOS settings, but could not find any way to check whether USB support was enabled. But then, using the unmentional operating system, I have no problem using the same keyboard to type this message. USB support must be enabled under both OS's.

Starting YAST is a bit hard when you need to enter a password using the "non existing keyboard" I mentioned in my post.

I use a dual boot system. When I have choosen (Suse) Linux, using my keyboard, the Suse OS starts to load. From then on my keyboard does not respond anymore. So I'm not able to press the Esc. key to get the start up messages. And I forgot to look in /var/log/boot.msg

But you were abel to install opensuse so during installation you're keyboard was working .
Because as a example you have to enter root password and a user
So start the system from the install media use the failsafe mode and start yast and have a look logs

I have a ECS MCP61 Motherboard. I Had similar issue with my logitech USB Keyboard/Mouse. i worked fine with windows but not with Opensuse 11.
well, i found that if i unplug/plug the cable , it worked.

ECS tech support asked me to change a jumper setting and BIOS.

So, Chaosbringer's suggestion is not strange.

I've encountered cases where a USB keyboard worked fine under WinXP, but to get the keyboard functional under Linux one had to go into their BIOS, and select "legacy mode" for USB devices.

    Hi,

I too have this problem. I have been running a SuSe 10.2 box for ages and decided to upgrade to 11.0 last week.

The install process all went fine until i rebooted at the end of the process whereupon i lost both keyboard and mouse. The box is a Dell Dimension something or other without PS/2 connectors. Instead it has 6 USB ports.

If I start in safe mode i gain access to both keyboard and mouse. Start in normal mode I lose it again. If I access using VNC from another PC all is fine (not surprisingly).

I have not lookedin the BIOS yet as I would rather not power down just for that as it is my mail server. Also, SuSe 10.2 saw the USB ports/devices and nothing has changed in the BIOS.

    Any ideas?
