Blender Doesn't Load Correctly

Blender seems a simple enough application to “install” in linux. Essentially you unpack the file, and copy the .blender folder into your home directory. Done and Done. However, When I load blender the weirdest thing happens. The program loads but the screen is heavily artifacted, looking very garbled. It also appears as though there are two blender windows, side by side. Any theories as to what is going wrong? Any way of figuring out whats going wrong? Log access?

I just recently installed my ati drivers, and they are finally working great. 3d Applications finally run, (not to mention well). Any help would be strongly appreciated! Thanks!
