Thread: Ever growing processes count...why?

    Default Ever growing processes count...why?

I've noticed that the longer my 10.2 system is running, as I log in and out of it, the processes count seems to grow. My machine has been booted up now for 120 days. I remember when it was first booted, there were something like 130 processes running. Now it's up to 181.

Can there be something that is starting threads but not killing them when I log off? I hate to have to reboot the machine periodically to fix this...maybe that's my only option (?)

    Thanks,
    Chuck

What do you have running? Anything running for a long period of time
that shouldn't be? Obviously many processes will be up for
days/weeks/months on end but others will not. Have you tried logging
out your user to see if they are processes bound to your logged-in
session or to something else in the system? Is your system behaving
poorly in any other way? Do you have any defunct processes (have a
    '<D>' in their `ps aux` entry as I recall)?

    Good luck.
