    This will tell you if Java is installed. There is another package to install the browser plugin, something like: java-<some_version>-plugin

    Thank you so much for your help. This is the answer to java -version:

    "java version "1.6.0_07"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 10.0-b23, mixed mode)"

    When I try to install a java plugin or such there's always compatibility problems.
