Default Need General Help with a New Installation of OpenSUSE

Well, I want to switch back to OpenSUSE, but I am having issues with the simple stuff. Another problem that is holding me back from switching to OpenSUSE is I need this Laptop for school. I use it every day, so that means I have to get over this learning curve before I can totally switch to OpenSUSE from my current distro.

I just installed OpenSUSE 11.0 Gnome i386 within VirtualBox. I haven't really done much to it. I tried to update the system, but I am unsure if it actually updated and I also get "some error about unable to update". Hahahaha, oh and I tried to install Guest Addition, but that is not happening any time soon.

Anyways, this is what I need to get working in OpenSUSE:
    - VirtualBox (install from source would be awesome)
    - Wine (need source, I always installed it from git clone)
    - Enable Share files with LAN (some linux and some Windows)
    - General Terminal Command Lines
(Some of the commands I use now *the basics* rm, cp, nano, cd, sudo, su, &&, etc, etc)

So the list isn't too bad, but I need these before I can reformat my hard drive and install OpenSUSE. It would be nice if I can get a guild on how to manually partition the hard drive for OpenSUSE (I am completely lost when I try manual partition). My partition setup for my current distro right now:
10 GIGs /root *Front (Beginning of the Hard drive)
    512 MBs swap *Front
    120 GIGs /home *End
Oh, I only know how to compile from source for one thing that's wine(I would really like to start compiling more stuff). I usually compile wine from source through git clone and I only know how to do that latest version. Any before that I am completely clueless.

    Any help would be amazing.

PS: Thank you so much for reading my thread. Now I am off to IRC.

    Oh, I forgot to add.
    - Command Codecs and Plugins
(As in flash, java, mp3, avi, etc, etc)
Is there a one command to install all of these? Or is there a good HOWTO thread for installing codecs on OpenSUSE 11.0
