Default How secure is the built in luks encryption

I am very interested in network security. I was installing suse the other day and I noticed an option to encrypt a parition. I chose to encrypt the home partitions. My question is how secure is that encryption. I understand that while its mounted its unsecure. I want to know though if someone were to get a hold of my computer or harddrive, could they break that encryption? Is this encryption a false sense of security? Could a hacker break it, could the FBI break it, could anyone break it?

Maybe this is a good starting point to get answers to your questions:
