KDE4 - Konqueror, what happened to "filter in folder"

On any file system tab there’s all the internet engines available inc. “find in page” but no “filter in folder”.

Suse 11.0 x64, Kde 4.1beta (factory repo), Opera 9.x weekly

As I have understood, this function was removed for some reason (or with no reason) from Konqueror in KDE 4
(which made many konqueror lovers unhappy).
Surely I miss this feature too.

is there any place which actually lists which facets of Konqueror 3.5.x will not be available in kde4 or which are still being ported? There seems to be much work still needed on the file part or maybe it’s a strategy to move people to Dolphin (which doesn’t really seem to be a kde app. because of the few options available).

Now I’m in KDE 4.3.0 and I can’t find filter bar again.

If you use 4.3.0 konqueror, can you, please,
check the availability of ‘Filter Bar’?

Maybe, I’m the only ‘lucky’ one without it?

In my system konqueror plugins packages seem to be installed:

konqueror 4.3.0-103.7
konqueror-plugins 4.3.0-5.2
konqueror-plugins-lang 4.3.0-5.2
ligkonq5 4.3.0-103.7
kdebase4-libkonq 4.3.0-103.7

In Settings -> Configure Extensions I see 4 extensions:

Directory Filter
Image Gallery
Search Bar
Shell Command Plugin

I enabled ‘Search Bar’ and ‘Directory Filter’.
I can see this ‘Search Bar’, which is pretty useless in file management.

But enabling ‘Directory Filter’ changes nothing.
I just can’t find. I looked through all buttons
and panels in ‘Configure Toolbars’ settings.

I tried to rename konqueror configuration folder
(~/.kde4/share/apps/konqueror/) to get default settings.
And I did get default settings, just not the filter bar.

Any hints how to enable filter bar in KDE 4.3.0
(or at leas is it available at all in KDE 4.3.0) are welcome.

don’t see it either, pretty sure it existed in a
previous release but I had so many issues with
Konq and file management I pretty much gave up
and use Dolphin exclusively

openSuse 11.1 x64bit, KDE4.x Factory, Opera
weekly

don’t see it either, pretty sure it existed in a
previous release but I had so many issues with
Konq and file management I pretty much gave up
and use Dolphin exclusively
As I understand KDE 4.3.0 Konqueror is Dolphin,
but with a couple of tweaks, e.g. ‘Split View’ and ‘Profiles’.
I use these features extensively.
Not knowing any substitutes for them,
I just can’t imagine using file manager
without these features anymore.

The problem is Dolphin doesn’t have ‘Split View’ and ‘Profiles’.
(By the way, I would be really happy if Firefox had ‘Split View’ too.)

**But **Dolphin has it’s own ‘Filter bar’,
which I like even more, then Konqueror’s.

But, despite the fact that Konqueror is based on Dolphin,
Dophin’s ‘Filter bar’ is not available from Konqueror.

And to sum up I will just say that
I don’t really care, how file manager is called:
Dolphin, Konqueror or Nabu-kudurri-usur.
I just need these features simultaneously in one program:
‘Split View’, ‘Profiles’ and ‘Filter Bar’.

That is why I still use Konqueror from KDE 3, which has them all.
I hope that some day it will be possible in KDE 4 too.
Or maybe it is there and I just do not see it?

That is why I ask.

I need your help, people…

I have upgraded from KDE 4.3.0 to 4.3.1 and then to 4.3.3,
bu I still cannot find the filter bar.

Can you, please, check if it is available in your system?
(Right click on Konqueror’s toolbar, that will bring up ‘Configure Toolbars’ dialog. Please check, do you have ‘Filter Toolbar’ in the list of the toolbars or ‘Filter bar’ item in ‘Available actions’?)

If you have, please list your konqueror and konqueror-plugins package versions.

If you have not, please write back to this bug report (I think it is a packaging bug, so I created it):
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=547933

Thank you.

I have View Filter on the ‘Extra Toolbar’.
Filter is not listed in the Configure Dialog.

Konq 4.3.3-3.1
Plug 4.3.1-4.5

Hmm, interesting… Do you mean this?

And you can enable it?
If yes, please post your KDE repository.

Thank you.

Yes.

> And you can enable it?

I never enabled it. it was that way by default.
You cannot enable it as far as I can tell it is not listed in
the configuration dialog.

download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/43/openSUSE_11.1/

Thank you!

I chose that repository too and… Yes, I have finally solved the problem!
**
To enable filter bar (and view filter), delete this file**:
**~/.kde4/share/apps/dolphinpart/kpartplugins/dirfilterplugin.rc

** New one will be autogenerated, when you start Konqueror.

Thread is pretty old, but this happened again, can you believe?!

After updating to** KDE 4.7 filter toolbar** in Konqueror is missing.

This doesn’t seem to be openSUSE packaging problem,
because the same behavior is seen in Arch:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=123517

I filed a bug report:
Konqueror: Directory Filter - filter box on Filter Toolbar is missing
