Default Start Menu takes time on 10.3

Weird thing lately. Every time I log into a session and I click the "start" menu, it takes over a minute for the menu to show up. But after that first time, the menu comes up as usual. Any ideas? Quite frustrating! Maybe it's Suse's way to tell me that I need to upgrade to version 11?

I'll take a wild (very wild) guess... do you have a LOT of fonts
    installed?

I haven't installed any since installing Suse 10.3 quite awhile ago.

By "start" menu, do you mean the gnome slab (actually labeled "computer")? If so, it was just slow on 10.3, and gets progressively worse over time.

If you search, you will find a few threads. There were several conjectures for this behavior - the most popular was that the menu was creating/loading thumbnails for all files on the system. There's a hidden directory in your home directory that you can delete to reset the process, but it will remain pretty slow. 11.0 is way faster.
