Thread: openSUSE11 spamassassin & evolution no go!

  1. #1

Angry openSUSE11 spamassassin & evolution no go!

I would like to have a Spam control system to use with my “evolution” mail client. But I am now totally confused!

In much of the reading I have done it seems I have to install a product called postfix?

Yet when I downloaded spamassassin via Yast postfix was not included in the download even as a dependancy!

Plus even though spamassassin was clearly installed on my system I checked in “Yast” I could find no way to launch it! Or ANY reference to it, not even in “evolution”

How do I get to spamassassin to configure it and tell it to work with my evolution email client? Or is it a case of installing postfix first? Or what! Helllpppp.

To further confuse matters when reading the documentation /usr/share/doc/packages/spamassassin/ it refers to a “script” that only works on versions up to V8 but makes no mention of evolution

    ABOUT THE SUSE INIT SCRIPT

    ==========================

The init script called syse-ancient-rc-script.sh does only work on oldish

versions like 6.x and 7.x. It will die on all newer versions.

A more up-to-date script is available via the KMail Tools page [1,2]. It's

not included in this distro due to licensing "issues", ie. it is based on

a GPL'd skeleton and had to be relicensed under an Apache license. (WHAT Why did Yast allow me to download a program that does not work with my OS I just do not get it?)

What do I have to do to get spamassassin working with evolution on openSUSE11, as you can see I need the "Idiots Guide To" type of thing

    Thanks for any help

I find Mozilla Thunderbird to be one of the best as it's all integrated in the client.

    Hi Caf
I have tried Thunderbird great email client, but it has one huge flaw, importing contacts from Outlook (I have 1000+) this is a complete nightmare as its field matching is not the same as Outlook and it does not recognise vcf files so it just ceates a huge issue for me.

Also it does not have a calendar function.
