Default cannot "switch user" or "end current session"

Please hope you can help. Used 10.2 with almost none problems. New installed
10.3 (save /home) and have new big problem:

When using KDE if I try to "Switch user" or "Log out" then "End current
session" the system will begin stopping down like in 10.2 , but then the
screen is black and all stuff stops. There is no hits to hard drive, can not
turn num-lock light off or on, can not ctrl-alt-F1 (or del or backsapce)
NOTHING works but the power button. (thank you for ext3 and no harm to file
    system)

Tried it also with gnome and xcfe and saw the same #¤%& stuff exactly. Tried
some acpi/apm on/off combos, but no change, allways with black screen. So, I
went to a term at F1 and did "init 3" (which was looking all good) then "init
5" and i got exactly the same black screen and all stuff stopped. Was big
    surprise for me.

I gess that maybe my init 5 is broke? What can be missing
from /etc/init.d/rc5.d? Here is contents her, are your's different?

could be the acpi specs of your p.c/laptop. either try a bios update or add acpi=force to your boot parameters

Words with new bios show no thing changed with acpi.

    sudo dmidecode | egrep -i "acpi|apm"
Shows that APM both with ACPI are on the board.

Sorry that acpi=force got no difference. Still got black screen.

/var/log/messages show no problem. Is there some other to see? Is there way to
turn on more logging and see why the hang?

    Other idea?

So many thank you for helping.

I use SuSE for years. Befor if ask problem question get many with good answer.
Now it is here most ask and fix how SuSE looks, sounds, plays. Not can fix how
    it not works.

Where have all the gurus gone, long time pasing? Maybe all at
    alt.os.linux.suse, will see.

Have you tried running sax2 from the CLI ? that might help with your graphics problem

    No graphics problem.

Problem is hang when try to "switch user" or "end current session".
Or when goto terminal (while KDE, gnome eller XFCE run smooth) and type "init
3" then "init 5" hang also.

    Other time, no graphic problem.

    acpi=force help not too.

    See?

That being the case, you either have a hardware problem or a software problem. Both difficult to diagnose remotely without detailed information on your set-up

was no problem on 10.2, must be software, no?
    what like to know?
    10.3 full patch
    KDE 3.5.7
but SAME problem if use gnome or xfce..

Since can not init 3 and then init 5 from terminal and not freeze,I think maybe
is problem in init 5 dir, so see first post for detail there. No help
from /var/log/messages so ask I if other place look.

Hi, I got the same problem. It started when I installed a new graphics driver from ATI. Before that switching users worked fine, but the games wouldn't work.

Now my graphics are fine, but I can't switch users. Sometimes it hangs, other times the system reboots.
