What are you trying to convert, and from what application? For KDE applications like KMail or Kontact, you can choose "Print to File (PDF)" from the drop-down in the dialog box where you choose the printer and options. That includes Konqueror for web pages. Firefox also has a "Print to File" option if you use that. OpenOffice has an "Export to PDF" function.

As you might be able to tell, I run KDE. If you run GNOME, most of this is moot for you.

what would you like to convert to?

*the poppler-tools package has a lot of nice little command line tools. (For us CLI crazies.)
*there are many konqueror plugins that let you convert an entire pdf to a series of images. like this one: konq-pdf KDE-Apps.org

    just a few examples
