why is opensuse so Buggy?

I have devede install it is a ap the converts avi into dvd well I used it this morning without any problems then tonight I went to use it again and when Iopen the ap it says that mplayer isn’t install. Well I checked and mplayer was installed but I reinstalled it and also reinstalled devede. but it still says the same thing .then for some reason mplayer stops working. I am really starting to believe that opensuse doesn’t like me at all. I am almost at the point of jjut giving up on opensuse and possibly all of Linux distros lol

So you’re running some application to convert API files to DVDs and that
application called mplayer (which doesn’t ship with opensuse) and that
application fails from time to time with an mplayer error, and you’re
asking why the OS is buggy? I haven’t seen an OS bug so far… just am
application and/or mplayer bug. Do you have the logs from what you are
doing specifically that show all of this happening? Have you tried VLC?
Tried calling mplayer directly? Where did you get this app? Where did
you get mplayer?

Good luck.

I do not have the feeling that the Linux OS was accused here (or even mentioned), but the OpenSuSE distribution.

That being said, if mplayer is not shipped with OpenSuse, the accusation is irrelevant just as well in this given case, but for the sake of clarity let us call a cat a cat

no the application has completely failed and so has its dependency which is mplayer. opensuse freezes up on me for know apparent reason . ok well that isn’t totally correct if I start an application it freezes up more times then not there is allot of little things that just add up hey maybe it is the apps that I add to opensuse but if that is the case then those applications shouldn’t be in the repositories they should be in the beta stage and speaking of that I might as well just try the new beta because as it is I am going to have to reinstall anyway so I might as well try that

Still missing the details. Which applications? What do the logs say?
Which repositories did you use to get mplayer? I guess it’s possible
that mplayer comes with opensuse, but I really don’t think it does. On
the opensuse download site I see a couple graphical frontends for
mplayer but no mplayer itself. I believe it is still not shipped with
the distro for legal reasons though many others make it available though
repositories like Packman (and others). These, however, are not shipped
from SUSE/Novell so they don’t come with opensuse. So, back to the
original question… where did you get mplayer and your other ‘app’
which you are using? What do they return when things break? Has this
always happened?

Good luck.

So that clears that up. mplayer has been added from Packman, and that’s
fine. So back to the questions we’re still needing to answer. What
application is calling mplayer? What is the error from mplayer? When
this happens does mplayer work if called directly?

Good luck.

“clicking” on mplayer isn’t going to do much for you, as it is a
command-line application. Other things, as previously mentioned, like
‘gmplayer’ are GUI wrappers to work with mplayer. Perhaps DeVeDe is the
same, but either way run mplayer from the command line and see if you
get something besides a bad-command error. If you do then mplayer is
working. If you don’t, then for some reason ‘mplayer’ is not in your
PATH, which is weird since that always happens automatically for me ever
so nicely. If it is in your path when you run it from the command line
you will need to get more data from DeVeDe on how it is calling mplayer
as apparently it is broken.

Good luck.
