    Smile 11.0 DVD install question

    Hi everyone! First post.
    Absoluteley Love Suse!
My question is probably easy to answer, I was not really sure where to ask it.
I would like to put the files from the 11.0 DVD onto the harddrive somewhere so I do not have to hunt the disk down if I want to install something from it.

    Thank you very much!
    Pete

This is because you don't have always on high speed internet? Yes?

Otherwise you would just disable the DVD in the repo list
    oss
    non-oss
    updates
should all be there by default

Add repo's by url or (if you need to .iso or folder of the suse dvd) with Yast - Software - Repositories

    Hi
It's easier to copy the iso image to a directory, then add via
YaST->Software->Software repositories. Use the 'Add' button and select
the 'Local ISO Image'. You could then just disable the original DVD
source. I suggest disable, just in case you need to reactivate.

If you have a good internet connection and no data caps, you could also
just disable the DVD and use the online oss and non-oss repositories.

Yes, simple stuff. First, download DVD ISO. Second, as root, mount it
somewhere, like to /mnt/opensuse11dvd with the following commands (the
first is to create the directory in case you didn't already):

    mkdir /mnt/opensuse11dvd
    mount -o loop /path/to/your/ISO/file.iso /mnt/opensuse11dvd

If you really want you can then copy the contents of that "directory" to
a real unmounted directory for use anytime later without mounting the
ISO. The ISO will stay mounted forever until you reboot. You can make
that happen automatically. Also, with SUSE 10 and later you can
download your ISO to wherever and then add that ISO directly as a
mountpoint. Software: Installation Sources: Add. In here you can then
specify either an ISO directly or a directory (and then choose an
individual ISO file you have from above). This is my preferred way
since I don't have to mess with mounting or counting a billion files around.

    Good luck.
