Default clicking on openSUSE forum posts in GMAIL or GOOGLE misses

Clicking on a link to forums.opensuse.org through google.com or mail.google.com results in the page only landing at forums.opensuse.org -- NOT at the actual post.

Anybody else seeing this? I have Ad-Block Plus installed and KDE3. This only has ever happened on this forum - no others.

(example - I searched for "opensuse xfce" in google, and clicked the first link that I got. It took me to http://forums.opensuse.org/ instead of the forum post)

I don't. Can you supply some more specifics? What is the actual URL of the link that doesn't take you to the message? Was the Google link actually http://forums.opensuse.org/ ?

It isn't doing it at the moment. But when it does, I'll copy/paste the URL. The funny thing is, if I click 'back' and click on the link again - it works.

    i have seen it also..

but, not consistently...not even what i'd call 'often'..

i don't know if it is related to being signed in, or not....or
maybe....well, i don't know why sometimes i get to _the_ forum
posting, and sometimes instead i get to http://forums.opensuse.org/

hmmmmm...maybe it is variable by time...that is, perhaps a "night
maintenance" routine/cron is causing an intermittent condition..

seems common. from what i can see, there are already 3 threads on this very topic. It appears to be a problem viewing archived threads from old SUSE forums. However, I get this problem even on new (1 week old) threads that I have started, and to which I subscribed. Happens I say 1 in 6 times

That could be the case if you are actually being directed to one of the old
forum servers that no longer exist.

I haven't been accessing old archive posts. Posters in the other 3 threads I mentioned were having this problem.

"I" have been having problems with RECENT posts to opensuse forums. Not old ones.

    thanks

I subscribe to this thread in Gmail. The above post showed up in my inbox, and a URL to view the thread was also visible. I clicked it, and I was immediately sent to http://forums.opensuse.org instead of

clicking on openSUSE forum posts in GMAIL or GOOGLE misses - openSUSE Forums

I managed to return to my gmail, and click it again. It worked the second time.

I also have another issue about logging into forums - i will start another thread.

I'm actually suprised that Kim is suprised about this problem because it
also happens in the Novell support forums (forums.novell.com) and has been
discussed in that context a number of times.

The issue is actually related to Novell's ichain integration plugin for
vBulletin, e.g. the plugin that allows use of Novell web login for the
    vbulletin forums.
I haven't been able to analyze the exact details of the problem, but
roughly the problem occurs under the following circumstances:

If you had previously been logged into the forums (not in the current
session), then your browser still has some kind of authentication cookie
for the web site but this cookie is no longer valid. Such an invalid
cookie will cause you to try to reauthenticate to the forums, but this
fails and you will end up on the forums home page.
The problem does not occur under the following situations:

    1) You don't have the cookie for the forums web site. In that case, you
end up on the desired page as an unauthentcated guest user

    2) You visited the forums in your current browser session (either you
logged in, or you didn't, in both cases, your cookies are in a sane state)

    Workaround for the problem:

Configure your browser such that it clears all cookis for
forums.opensuse.org when you close your browser.

    Long term solution:
Someone needs to create a scenario were the problem can be systematically
reproduced so that Novell people can no longer claim they don't see the
problem and someone finally decides to fix it.
