Create a user with s/w installation permissions

Hi

How to create a new user with S/W installation permissions.
coz, im trying to install oracle 10g on Suse 10. But there it says, root user CANNOT perform the oracle installation

so need to create a new user with accessible permissions to install s/w. (need to access the usr, opt, etc… folders as well)

how can i create a user that has equivalent permissions as root.!

by the time… i hv created a user(user321) using user management.
but when login from that user, he cannot write(just to read is possible) to these set of folders (such as folders in / level) - user321 CANNOT create folders in / level.

As a root, how can i give that permissions…

Is there a way of doing this graphically and using the editor.

There are a few CoolSolutions on Novell’s site that details how to
install Oracle 10g on various versions of SUSE. In your case I would
recommend getting SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and then installing the
‘orarun’ package. If this is available on OpenSUSE then it will
probably do all you need there too, though neither Oracle nor Novell
will be providing support in your final system in that case (just a
thought).

#install orarun
yast -i orarun

With that done you will have a directory structure (/opt/oracle) and a
user (oracle) that you can use. To use the oracle user modify the
user’s default shell in /etc/passwd from /bin/false to /bin/bash and set
the user’s password (passwd oracle) but from then on you can extract
the installation media and run everything as the oracle user.

Good luck.
