    Default Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN

    Suse 11 64 doesn't detect this card.

Can anyone tell me how I might get it working?

    Thanks

have a look in the wireless section, especially the two stickies at the beginning, lots of useful info there

    Andy
p.s. this would be better in that section, might get noticed by the wireless guru's

    Found this note searching

Intel would like to announce Linux support for Wifi Link 5000 and
5100 Series Adapters under iwlwifi driver (iwlagn.ko)

The Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 Series and 5300 is a families of IEEE
    802.11a/b/g/Draft-N1 wireless network
adapters that operate in both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz spectra. These
    adapters, available
in both PCIe* Mini Card and Half Mini Card form factor
    5100 1x2 MIMO up to 300Mbps
    5300 3x3 MIMO up to 450Mbps

Note: in 2.6.27-rc3 the MIMO and QoS features are not operational due
to recent changes in MQ. This has probably hit also other wireless
drivers We are working on resolving these issues.

The best known working driver can be located in iwl500 branch of
    iwlwifi-2.6.git
    git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/iwlwifi/iwlwifi-2.6.git iwl5000

It is based 2.6.26-rc6 wireless-testing kernel.
We will publish compat-wireless that works with this release for easy
back porting to earlier stable kernels.

The driver requires firmware that can be downloaded from
Intel® Wireless WiFi Link drivers for Linux*

I have the same problem with Lenovo x200.

I updated kernel to 2.6.27 and right now my wireless is detected. I can see wireless when I type 'iwconfig' but i cannot connect to any network.

I do not see this wireless in any other place (e.g. Network Icon in the gnome panel) beside 'iwconfig' result.

    Any idea what is wrong?

    2 questions:

1 ) did you configure the device in YaST - network devices - network settings ?
2 ) have you tried changing channels on the router,if you have done 1 )

Yes, I did 1) and I did not do 2)

But I tried to use this laptop in 3 different networks (home, work and Strabucks) and nothing...

If your wireless card is detected and iwconfig shows it, I guess it works.
The only problem seem to be getting some network manager to work.

For me the default 'Networked Manager' was NOT working as I want , so I
    1) choosed in Yast -> Network Setting Traditional method with ifup
    2) left my wireless card unconfigured in Yast
    3) installed wicd
    4) started wicd daemon (you can also make it start automatically via Yast -> System Services)
    5) connected successfully to my wireless network using wicd GUI

Also there is wifi-radar wireless network manager
(It works better, than default manager, but sometimes just fails to connect,
and I never was able to connect with it to my WPA2 home wireless network)

As a monitor, to see whether network connection works or not i use knemo.

I read somewhere in the thousands of posts on wifi cards not working in Linux that my card requires the iwlan driver.

    I performed this little experiment:

    Downloaded the 11.1 Beta 3 Live-CD

    Booted to the Live-CD

Yast > Network Devices > Network Settings.

    My 5100AGN was not detected.

Add > Wireless > wlan0 > Module (entered iwlan since noting appeared in the select list) > open > ssid (left blank) > Finish

Network Manager now has wireless enabled and I was prompted for a Default Keyring password and my WAP password the viola I am connect perfectly

    Now for those lurking Grus:

    1. How do I install the iwlan module in 11.0
    2. Will it work with my running kernel - 2.6.25.16-0.1 ?

    ???
    Thanks in advance
