KNode(News) in Kontact stopped displaying articles from Newsgroups

Hello,

KNode in Kontact stopped displaying articles from all newsgroups while there
are plenty articles in the newsgroups. I am not sure whether I have caused
it myself (by experimenting with the layout) or that something went wrong.

I cannot find the problem. Please help.

Since I cannot read the articles in KNode, can you send a CC of your reply
to f.leerink@hccnet.nl

Regards,
Frans

the layout was changed about 3-4 weeks ago, you need to set it up again

What deltaflyer said.
Then again a similar issue hit me in the past, and I had to unsubscribe/subsrcibe to the newsgroups in question.

Nah, we’re out there on web through HTTP

Uwe

Hello Uwe,

I have set up KNode anew a few weeks ago when a couple of Forums merged. After that it worked oke but recently I can only see the accounts and the account groups with the number of read/unread articles and also notice when new articles are added to the number of read/unread articles. But if I try to open an accountgroup to see and select an article nothing happened. The KNode display has at the left side the hierarchy of accounts with related accountgroups and the rest of the display is taken by the unread and total articles column. I cannot change that to get the articles displayed on the right side of the display, as it was before, while it was still displaying the articles.

Regards, Frans

Frans,

did you try and unsubscribe/subscribe?

Uwe

Hello Uwe,

Yes I have tried that. After that action I have set the forums.openSUSE.org account and subsribed to a few newsgroups. The display looks as follows but I am still not able to display the articles.

i have never used KNode for nntp (have used PAN and now using
thunderbird), but i GUESS like all other nntp clients there are
several user changable viewing settings…like:

show only unread messages
show all messages
don’t show read messages
delete all read messages
keep all read messages
show messages in thread order
show messages in time sent order
show messages in time received order
show messages in REVERSE time received order
etc etc etc etc etc…

and, maybe KNode has others (some get pretty strange)…MAYBE it even
has a setting to show only unread messages that came before mid-June
2005–i do NOT know, but if it were me i’d CAREFULLY look at all the
VIEW options available…and, see if in clicking around your
messages will suddenly show up…

ALTERNATIVELY: open a file manager of your choice and find the area
in your /home where KNode keeps the actual messages…and, see if
there ARE any messages actually downloaded…

good luck.

That didn’t make it

Uwe

Hello Denver, Uwe,

I finally found the problem, so it works again.

The problem was caused by the fact that I had clicked twice on the close mark(X)in the top right corner of the header resp. article viewer. The result is that you are left with only the group viewer that cover the full screen (that was my situation).
The situation could be corrected by clicking Settings/show article viewer and Settings/show header viewer. (If you click on the mentioned items in the reverse order you have also to click on the docking arrow in the top right corner of the header viewer)

Thanks for the help

Regards, Frans
