Default kde4 systemsetting - login manager

I'm trying to set the default login options using systemsettings and I'm not not being allowed access to the module

If I open systemsettings as a user the module shows in 'advanced" but it is grayed out and the is no way to switch to root as there is in the kde3 equivalent.

If I kdesu systemsettings then the login manager module is not displayed

Of course I can (should be able to) switch user and open a 2nd session as root, except that when using kde4-kdm this errors out so my only option is to logout as user and login as root.

There must be a better way or is there?

running kde4 unstable which is kde4.2beta (I believe).

    thanks,

Umm...For right now, no (as far as I know). This is one of the many naggling little details that is missing from KDE4 right now. Why not log into a kde 3 user session to use kdm as opposed to a root login in 4?

actually I had been using kde3's kdm and kcontrol (from within kde4) for this but when I upgraded to 4.2 beta figured I'd try kde4's kdm and when it didn't work then I posted to see if others had the same issue.
