Thread: Updating Software Via VNC

  1. #1

    Default Updating Software Via VNC

    I am trying to set up an openSuse server that I will manage remotely.

    I have VNC working and logged in remotely. I noticed there was software ready to install so I clicked on the icon but it told me I did not have system privileges.

    So I logged out and tried to log in as root, but it disconnected me.

    How can I do software updates using a desktop via VNC?

    Hi
    it won't let you on purpose, security. I'm think vnc sends the password
    in plain text.

    Just open a console session and run the zypper command to update;

    Code:
    sudo zypper ref
    sudo zypper lu
    This will refresh and the list the updates, so you can review before
    applying. If you are happy to apply them;
    sudo zypper up

    It was a different problem -- i was in fact logged in on the console (I was rebooting my server remotely and didn't realize it was set to auto-login).

    Once I logged out of the console session, I was able to do an update via vnc using Yast just fine.
