KDE 4.1 display power management

Hello,
I’m running 10.3 here, with the factory 4.1 desktop as an alternate. KDE 3.5.9 seems to turn the monitor off as expected, but KDE 4.1 does not. I’ve checked, and the settings are such that is should … No biggie, but wondered if I should enter a bug report?

Thanks,

bertman

I cannot confirm this bug. KDE 4.1 turns off my LCD monitor quite well. Have you enabled DPMS in SaX2?

Hello,
Well, I thought it was enabled, but it wasn’t.

Now it is…I’ll see if that works.

Thanks,

bertman

Nope,
restarted X, and logged back in… the monitor is still on screensaver.

bertman

Yup same problem here, DPMS enabled but screen isn’t turning off.
KDE 4.1 OSS 11

And you’ve enabled power management in KDE Control Panel->Display->Power Control right?

Yep, It’s configured! Nope, still does not work.

bertman

Yes I have enabled that… >:(

I have the same problem. My monitor will power down but will not turn off.

One thing I noticed at one point was that when I left the system at the login screen the monitor DID power down. However, after I logged in this did not happen. I guess it is a bug.

For me the global DPMS settings are working if my screensaver’s autostart is disabled. But in Powerdevil DPMS isn’t working, this is a bug and I’m already reported it:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=178642.

I am glad to see i am not the only one with this problem.

It was working in KDE 4.1 but not in 4.2 beta 2. Although at one point it did. I just hope there is a fix.

This has actually been a reported bug for some time:

this may be too simple, but the problem i was having when i found this post was that i couldn’t for the life of me, remember where power settings was…
if you’ve been using SuSE and KDE or Linux in general, there are a half dozen places to make even the simplest adjustments so remembering them all, while trying to get your work done, well you get it…

in ‘personal settings’ (sometimes referred to as ‘system settings’ or ‘configure desktop’ other than right click on desktop)… *Assuming you’re running KDE 3 or 4.

There are at least two (2) places in general settings to deal with and this is assuming that your power daemon is not running as i rarely see it running.
1: desktop> screen saver… if that’s your issue.
2: display> power control (this is what i could not remember where it was for the life of me… oh, well.
3: Power Daemon is in Advanced Tab> Service Manager> bottom section, ‘startup services’, near bottom of list… Running??

I know this is a simple answer and you most likely know this, but had someone took the time to reiterate simple things like this for others (me), I wouldn’t have Waste Soooo much time, looking for **** I know, I know where it is and then I kick myself every time i finally find it, because it ‘was so simple’, ****…

any ways, good luck.
Landis.
