Desktop Effects

I’ve searched through the forums, but I can’t seem to get desktop effects working on my system. I’m running OpenSUSE 11.0 with KDE 4.1 on a laptop that has an Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go graphics chip. I installed the legacy binary driver from Nvidia, and I see the Nvidia logo when X is starting. I also have the nvidia driver set in xorg.conf.

First I tried kwin’s built in compositing feature. I checked the “Enable Desktop Effects” option and turned on a few effects (wobbly window’s, etc), but nothing happens.

I also tried enabling desktop effects in the simple compiz config manager. Still nothing happens. Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting my effects working?

Sorry about that Andy. Thanks for moving it to the right area.

This might help:

Compiz Fusion in openSUSE 11.0 | SUSE & openSUSE

In particular for nvidia cards:

Setup nVidia Graphics card with AIGLX rendering for openSUSE 11.0 | SUSE & openSUSE

Have you tried glxgears from terminal…
