Default How to clear history documents in Gnome's menu?

I'm using openSuSE 10.3 gnome version, the start menu has history documents, there is no way to clear it, I searched the internet and found they are in .recently-used.xbel, I deleted the file and history are cleared, however, if I launch an application from Favorite Applications, all previous history appeared, I wonder where do they come from as I've removed .recently-used.xbel? And is there anyway to truly delete them?
    Thanks
