Thread: Cant find Make file...

    Default Cant find Make file...

    I am very new to linux,though i am pretty impressed with my OpenSuse 11 installed on my Laptop.But i cant compile and install programs.I tried './configure'.Once this was done ,i was expecting a make file.But i get a message 'bash: make: command not found'.Kindly help me.

    I think you need to open up Yast-->software management and install gcc. Without a C compiler, you can't make anything.

    You need to install the development tools. Either use YaST or the
    following CLI commands.

    Code:
    zypper in devel_C_C++
    If you also use the following, this shows what is installed and what
    isn't from a pattern point of view.

    zypper pt

    i just wonder if you know that it is not required to compile EVERYTHING...there
    are many many many applications ready to roll..

    first stop for any application should be (imo)
    http://packages.opensuse-community.org/

    or, just open YaST and then click on Software Management, and then search for
    the package..

    i've used linux for years and compile maybe two a year...

    Yes...i figured it out.I used YAST2 to get GNU Make tools...now make works...YAST2 is a blessing...Thanks for your responses guys...
