    Default ThinkPad T43 / Fingerprint Reader / opensuse 11.0

    Hi Folks,

the only issue I am facing is that the fingerprint reader is not working.

Actually, it is working because it acquires the fingerprints like it should and does apparently save them to the right files. I can even add my own to the associated plugin on my user profile.

Yet I can't use the feature to authenticate in any way. I always have to enter the password instead of swiping my finger.

    Here a bit of data:
    Machine: IBM ThinkPad T43
    OS: OpenSuSE 11.0 w/ KDE 4
Reader: SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader

Although it is not more than luxury, any help would be highly appreciated. If you need more info to determine the problem don't hesitate to ask.

    Thanks

    Using Fingerprint Authentication - openSUSE

I don't have a fingerprint reader anymore, but yours should work just fine after config...

    Hope it helps!

The SGS reader is VERY sensitive. Keep swiping.. and I mean A LOT,
eventually, it make get recognized as a match (I've actually gotten
a match). However, 1 our of 1000 times does make the device rather
useless. The fingerprint reader on Dell's works better.

With that said, they're pretty insecure. May be awhile yet before
we have reliable biometric identification.... and even then
it may be an implant of sorts.

Just pushed KDE 4 away and used GNOME instead. Works fine now. Seems to be an issue with the Desktop.
