    Strange.
I removed my Fan, and replaced with a heatsink.

If I run Compiz the GPU temp doesn't hardly change.

Your fan is running though - Yes?

Mine used to make too much noise - so it had to go. But yours should do the job by default

yes it is running but it cracks up the tempetures to 95.
which is still safe but u guys know how fun compiz is u can spend hours just playing with it

i cracked up EVERYTHING up max with nvidia settings, x11 and compiz settings. it truelly shows why linux is amazing.

You could try nvclock, it's a fan control application. It is not in the common repos, but here's a link to an rpm for openSUSE 11.0 i586: ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/home:/hgraeber/openSUSE_11.0/i586/nvclock-0.8_beta3a-3.3.i586.rpm It seems links aren't working just cut and paste the address into a browser.

YaST will leave (for example) those it installed/removed BEFORE it failied...or,

    The installer does something like:

    for package in 1 2 3 4 5; do
    rpm -i $package
    fi

so if it says it's installed, it is complete

    was afraid of that...

[warning non-programmer asking] wouldn't it make more sense if when it hit the
error and quit, it would back track and pick up the crumbs it left on the way to
    failing??

WAIT...i just noticed, all that installed and deleted was DAYS ago

look again--the failure to install nvclock.rpm happened TODAY, the most recent
of the others was on 2 Aug! yipee, i don't have to pick up any crumbs:

I suppose it might make sense to act like a database 'transaction', if not
performable, it doesn't do any of it... but that only works if you were
installing one thing at a time, like pidgin, then later, knode, then
warzone2100, and so on. each 'thing' a conceptual item.

Often, rpm based installers stop at the first error, so everything previous
to it is installed properly. And depending on various arguments, it could
conceivably try to install everything requested, throwing an error if
    something failed, but continuing otherwise.

But as you noticed, it was on a later date and all is good.

On a side note, I installed nvclock last night after I saw your posts, so
it's likely there was a time where there were errors, and they were fixed
when I got to it. Works nice!
