Default Amarok won't open mp3 player

I have an mp3 player that I use in MSC mode*. In openSUSE 10.3 Amarok worked fine with it. Now I'm using openSUSE 11.0 with KDE 4.1. When I connect the mp3 player, KDE detects it and allows me to open it with Dolphin, but Amarok fails to "see" it.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Leandro

*I've also tried this in MTP mode, with the same results.

    12 hour later bump!

Please tell me if I need to post any more information to debug this. I've searched for this problem, but found nothing.

    Thanks again,
    Leandro

{Smile} Actually, you're ten minutes early for a 12 hour bump, but I'll let
    you off this time...

If you wish to use your mp3 player in MSC mode, you will need to
add/configure it in amarok manually, as it does not autodetect usb drives,
which is how MSC mode responds.

    - Start Amarok
    - Settings -> Configure Amarok...
    - Last on the left, 'Media Devices'
    - Add Device
    - Choose 'Generic Audio Player'
    - Give it an appropriate name
    - enter the mount point that it shows up at when you insert the device into
the usb port. Usually, it'll be '/media/thingy' or something like that.
Plug it in, and navigate dolphin to /media, have a look.
    - click OK, and finish/close the setup dialog

When your device is plugged in, click on the 'Devices' tab, bottom left of
left pane, click 'connect'... it should read and display your music

Right click on songs/albums to QUEUE them for transfer to the player
(crucial point there!), then click on 'Transfer' in Devices tab to copy
files over. Remember to 'Disconnect' before removing device so file
buffers are sync'd and written out properly.

MTP mode is slightly easier, you select 'MTP device' rather
than 'Generic...', and give it a name only, it'll find it when it's plugged
    in.

If you have a Sansa device, MTP mode is usually recommended, as using MSC
mode could disable the playing of any 'protected' (DRM!) music. That's a
Microsoft issue really, but it could bite you if the device does the
deciding. (wait... DRM'd music? What? {Grin})

To my knowledge, Amarok only ever really autodetected a friend's ipod, the
Creative Zen, Sansa and various knock-offs I've plugged into my machine
usually had to be added manually. But once added, they worked quite well.

    Hope this helps

    Loni

I guess you are using amarok 1.4.x which is a kde3 app. You need to install kdelibs3 if you want amarok to automatically detect you mp3 player because you need kded mediamanager wich is include there.
I had the same problem with my ipod, after installing kdelibs3 everything works fine.

To get mediamanager you need to download kde3base as well (I had to do that to get it working). Cheers
