    No, really... what?
    You obviously not only know the OS internals and admin very well, but have a strong handle on the hw side, too. Very valuable here on these boards.

    The system is stable with the following setting: pci=noacpi

    Acording to the fine manual this means
    This parameter disables the PCI IRQ routing in the new ACPI system.
    Could someome translate that to plaintext English? My assumption is that ACPI wizardry works as usual, but it will not apply to devices that are attached to the PCI bus.

    Does anyone know whether this parameter has any side effects one should be aware of?

    {Chuckle} I grew up with a Father who was deep into Heathkit electronics
    kits. I built my own oscilloscope, clock, calculator and other things all
    before I was 12. Been playing with computers since I was 10. Fluent in
    about 30+ computing languages, can quickly pick up new ones. So I have a
    "little bit" of experience with just about everything in, or running on, a
    computer. Add a very good memory...

    Yeah, I do ok. {Smile}

    Thanks.

    Loni

    {Grin} I'm also a Blonde airhead too... what was awesome though?

    Kidding, right? Well, to start with, there is the above. But my remark was specifically in ref to dmidecode and similar you've posted elsewhere, OS/hardware obscurities. Hmmm, wonder how many members know what the DMI standard is, let alone reading a symbios map. Jeez, that kinda stuff takes me back to reading dumps and writing code to translate ascii sets btwn diff platforms . . . I did my 30 in the Valley, 20 w/HP. Ironically, these days when oem's & MS try to make the very complex very untrained-proof, it sometimes pays off to know how the bloody stuff actually works . . . Kudos.
