i *think* your device could have the rt2xx chipset,so you probably need the driver from here Linux driver for rtl818x wlan nic

    goodmorning Andy,
I am sorry for the delay in my reply.
You suggested to download a Linux driver (rtl818x wlan nic). I will try that. But i am not comfortable of compiling and building program files. I understand this driver is also in a very early development stage.
I will also look for a device that will work under Linux. I found a list of devices on this forum.
    Thank you for your help,
    Piet

if that driver fails to work, you could also try this one Ralink Technology: Linux & if that doesn't work, there is always ndiswrapper

    Hi Andy,
I would like to let you know that my problem is solved.

I followed the instructions in the thread "My wireless doesn't work - a primer on shat I should do next". I found out that my laptop (= second hand) has a built-in Broadcom BCM 4306 wireless radio.

After that I followed the instructions in the thread "additional wireless bits". I excuted the command "sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm_43xx_firmware". The software was installed. After that I rebooted my laptop and the driver was loaded and started. Then I only had to create a new connection to my access-point.

Previously I have had Linux Suse 6.0 and Suse 10.1 so I can work from the command line. That is no problem.

I could not never have done it without your help. Your help and your links to information put me in the right direction.
    Thank you for your help.
