Default Does GNOME Have a Mixer? Low Sound

I turned up the two sliders in Yast (Master, PCM) but my sound (on board nVidia Max) is still very low (I dual boot XP, and XP can blast the sound on the same hardware).

Is there any other volume control I should be looking at? A mixer? I'm running GNOME. The low sound is really annoying because all the video is running superbly on my system!!

In addition to what buckesfeld noted, for some sound cards, one can find volume settings for sound under YaST > Hardware > Sound > Other > volume
