    Thumbs up Don't forget to update online after a network install

    Great new release with simpel installer. But when I do a Net install I don't expect to have to do a online update afterwards

    The net installer pulls files from a static (unchanging) image created when
    the installer was created. This is what is on the DVD's, CD's, etc.

    Once the system is running, it then uses the online-update to 'catch-up' to
    the current versions.

    This makes the installer more streamlined and simpler... and thus more
    robust and able to handle more system setups 'out-of-the-box'.

    Windows does the same thing... if you consider installing off a CD/DVD to be
    like a 'net' install. Install windows, then wait as 2,457 updates parade
    through your modem. (oh, and reboot... a few times) {Grin}

    Windows that doesn't sound very ambitious. Isn't that the OS that needs 12 driver cd's after installing a default workstation. I'm sorry but I haven't installed windows in this century yet. Should I try it?

    I reckon that if I could opt for the current updates directly that it would cost less bandwidth. If nine out off ten users do update after an install then I was taught that downloading the version that is not updated should be the exception.

    Let put it this way; I would think it would be a good idea to add a install option that needs the smallest possible boot medium and that would directly download and install the latest updates available.

    I know I can deselect the automatic option for this but as said I would default to update automatically and make not updating an option when you deselect the automatic configuration option.

    But hey, that's just my opinion, or do more people agree?

    Cheers, Thomas
