Thread: My cough won't go away.

Default My cough won't go away.

I don't know if I should post this here, since it has nothing to do with technology. I just wondered if anyone else has ever had this problem before, or if it's something I'm worrying too much about.

Three weeks ago, I woke up one day and had a slight tickle in my esophagus. It feels like it's in my windpipe, and below my throat. It's definitely above my lungs, so I don't think I have pneumonia, but of course I wouldn't completely rule that out without going to a doctor first. I don't have to cough too much; just once every 2 minutes or so. It doesn't hurt, and I have no other symptoms. This happened twice before, but in the past it happened after I had a nasty cold. This time, I didn't have a cold first. I have no known allergies or asthma, and I don't smoke, which is what makes this strange. The cough is annoying, but not unbearable. It's only in the daytime when I'm sitting or standing. If I lie down, it goes away. I'm not sure what to do. Should I go see a doctor and get a chest x-ray, or should I just take some decongestants and give it another week or two to go away?

Anything as persistent as a week should not be ignored. Get some medical attention. Don't assume that an X-ray is required, that's up to the doctor.

I rarely go to the doctor unless my leg falls off, but with my two-year-old daughter, I take her for the slightest things since I'm a worried parent. Her doctor is always saying a cough can last two weeks as part of a cold, but with no other symptoms, there may be something else going on.

Does it feel like something is stuck in your throat?

And does your insurance allow you to go straight to Ear/Nose/Throat specialist, or do you have to visit a normal doc first?

It doesn't feel like anything is stuck in my throat. It feels like I might have post nasal drip. Someone said that's what I might have. My insurance will cover a doctor trip, so I can probably go right to a nose/throat specialist. I'll set up an appointment for that, then. Thanks for your advice enderandrew and ken_yap!

I had a cough like that a couple of years ago.

I was coughing for no reason whatsoever for over two weeks.

Gon eto the doc, he told me it was just my throat muscles were sore from coughing, and some prescription stuff solved in a couple of days.

Have you ever seen the movie called The Stand? This could be the beginning of the end for all mankind.

Were you playing with the monkey from "Outbreak"?

Didn't see that movie. I saw 12 Monkeys though. Similar plot line, probably.
