    Default Upgrade woes

I have been using SuSE since 9.3 and upgraded each time with no issues - til now. At boot run level 5 commences but I end up at a prompt startx does start x. I can't see the problem.
My Dell Inspiron 8600 touchpad no longer works correctly, the cursor floats off to the top left and the touch pad doesn't recognise if it is tapped (buttons work ok).
The DVD player refuses to mount through GUI but will at command line.
I am bitterly regretting going over to a .0 upgrade and though I have other issue can anyone help with above most pressing ones.

    Thanks

just revert to the full system backup you made just before installing
11.0...that will put you back into a fully patched 10.3 with all
    bitterness gone and happy again..

then, you can wait on 11.1 or (if you made the mistake of loading KDE4)
you can load 11.0 again, but this time with KDE3.x or Gnome..

Any help from /var/log/Xorg.0.log? Run YaST Graphics Card and regenerate xorg.conf? Any kernel errors (from dmesg or var/log/messages)? What is the graphics card and driver you are using?
