    Ensure you have checked both the Master Volume and PCM volume in your mixer.

    If that doesn't help, then some more information would be helpful.

    With your laptop connected to the internet (assuming you can get a wired connection) can you run a diagnostic script that will post information on your laptop's hardware/software audio configuration to a pastebin site. Specifically, copy and paste the following line to a konosle:
    Code:
    wget http://home.cfl.rr.com/infofiles/tsalsa && su -c 'bash ./tsalsa'
    When prompted for a password enter the root password. When it is complete it will give you a URL. Please paste that URL here.

    Also, please run the following commands in a konsole and paste their output here:
    rpm -qa | grep alsa
    rpm -qa | grep pulse
    rpm -q libasound2
    uname -a
    cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound

    With that information, I may be able to make a recommendation that will help. I have read of Toshiba Tecra A8 users adding the model option "model=basic" to their /etc/modprobe.d/sound file (where such an option is applicable to hardware audio codecs ALC260, ALC262, AD1981, AD1984, CX5047 and CX5051) but I think it best to confirm that before making a recommendation.
