open suse 11 intel 3945 wireless not connected

Greetings all, hoping you can help

well I switched to linux on this laptop cos my windows hdd died and refused to load back up again!! Thought I’d give opensuse a go as had some good reviews… Have to say it looks good!!

Obviously am a newbie and dont know all of the commands, but have been reading these forums for help in trying to get wireless working… so far no joy!

Below are my settings… I’m using a HP COMPAQ TC4400. When I try and configure it just says not connected and when I try and use KWIFI Manager it just says no network found…

My old thinkpad laptop running ubuntu can see router fine and my vista pc can see it fine so I know its not a problem with the router or any of the router settings…

** /sbin/lspci -nn**

Thanls

I am using intel 3945ABG and inet 4965AGN which are able to connect to access poion on opensuse 11.

Can you scan any access point by this command?
#iwlist wlan0 scanning
Please also verify your wireless nic like below example.

Am I right in thinking that it can see my wireless in places, but not others??

Same here,

I have a Compaq HP nx 7400 with the 3945 card. Everything worked fine in openSUSE 10.3, keyboard let, enabling and disabling, swapping between wired B44 card and wireless I never had to spend a thought about it.

After upgrading to openSUSE 11 I have to mess up my house with cables just to fill out this forum :-(.

My other laptop still runs fine so no infra trouble. When I download, compile and install compat wireless I see networks for a brief moment but after that no more network, not even wired so I have to reinstall again. I’ve been working on this for 30 hours straight with no succes.

Please help?

Problem seems solved. I again installed the compat drivers but this time without unloading the old drivers. After that I threw my sweex WAP out off the window and installed a linksys.

Greetings, Thomas

Well I still cannot connect wirelessly… Anyone have any suggestions?

The new WAP has a 11a and 11g channel. only the 11g channel seems to work. Does that make any sence?

I’me in your same situation, nx7400 and opensuse 11.0, if I press the wireless button the blue led will not power on.

on yast i can see my wireless card, and the iwl3945-ucode rpm was istallaed by default from system.

how you can connect?? compat driver?? where i ca found it??

many thanks

That’s a know issue AFAIK, and it simply means the light doesn’t shine

As root:

touch /etc/modprobe.d/iwl3945

Edit the file:
alias wlan0 iwl3945
options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1

Reboot. Does it help?

Uwe

from what I can tell, I have the same problem as mitch1976:

wlan is not supporting scanning, network is down.

My wlan worked well enough before the kernel update to 2.6.25.16-0.1-pae.

compilation and loading of compat-wireless did not appear to help (it has helped others)

I have tried

As root:

touch /etc/modprobe.d/iwl3945

Edit the file:
alias wlan0 iwl3945
options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1

which after rebooting did not help.

I am obviously a bit frustrated after hours of following forum advise. It also seems like reinstalling the old kernel does not return my wlan to its former glory. It is a pity that these security updates do not come with warnings. I do not need much security if I cannot connect to the internet - so perhaps this is the ultimate security update!

I hope that someone who has had a similar problem could share their solutions.

I have oS 11 on hp compaq nx7300 and 6710b, both with intel 3945ABG - in my case, solution to wireless was to install ipw-firmware from non-oss repository (or dvd).

I’m a newb and couldn’t get the wireless to work on my laptop or desktop. I tried everything I found on the forums and no joy. Then I changed my router’s encryption from WEP to WPA and, hey presto, both machines connected straight away with no problems. And super fast to.

Module, Does your hardware switch\activity light work on the 6710b? I have one also, but cannot make wireless work. Although I did try to install the compat drivers before ipw-firmware which may have complicated my situation.

If anyone get a definitive answer to this it would be great.

yes, everything works without compat-wireless.

Hi,
I had the same problem after updating:
wireless working in 10.2 not working in opensuse 11.0, with the same above symptoms, no scanning no acces point etc…
