After installing the standard 64-bit openSUSE 11.0, Gnome and later KDE 4.0, everything worked fine, until one automatic download wiped out the task bar (noticed it in Gnome and could not boot into KDE). This issue seems should go beyond the "Gnome or KDE" range.

Any hint? I am not an expert.
