Default Strange noise from sound cards

I haven't really thought of this before, so I can't say if this is something new in my system, but I think I have to much noise from my speakers connected to the soundcard. I have two soundcards, a built in one and a hdsp, the same amount of noise is generated through both. This is not software related as I can uninstall drivers without getting rid of the noise (white noise I presume). And, the same thing is experienced in windows XP. I have to turn my amplifier up to almost half before I can hear it though, but still I don't like this.

Have anyone else experienced this, it can't be normal that the computer generates noise in this amount. This noise is just electronic interference I believe, and has nothing to do with the sound production.

Would be nice if anyone just post if they can produce this/some noise. And of course if someone knows or have thoughts of what this could be.

    Regards

I might add that I just now ran memtest86 which gave me a whole lot of errors so I suppose I have a memory problem. Something which I suspected. However, the noise were gone? So maybe the noise comes from the graphics card which I don't think is very active in this text based memtest mode?

Maybe your soundcard is picking up interference from nearby electronics. Can you situate your card further away from the graphics card, or is it onboard? If you listen on a headphone is it still there? Maybe the amplifier connection is picking up interference.

Hei, it is a pci-e graphics card, and a builtin and a pci sound card, The two slot cards are not situated near each other, they are as far apart as they can be. Noticed something a bit strange, when I move my konqueror window across the screen, the noise will increase as I move the window towards left and decrease when I move it to the right.

{Chuckle} I realize this isn't exactly helpful... but your description of how
the sound changes reminds me of a Theremin.

A question: Is your cable from your sound card(s) to your speakers/amps
running alongside your video cable? Could it be electromagnetic inductive
pickup? Your experiences with memtest86 not making sounds, and XP/linux both
making noise does mean it's hardware and related to video somehow.

Check the position of that cable. Could be a contributer.

Hei, yes maybe they do. I don't think they run alongside eachother for a long distance but still. I will try to change this around a bit.

    Thanks

No I don't think so, but thanks anyway Timasergej. I tried to see what happened after the desktop had gone to sleep, and there, no noise! So it has to be graphic related.

By the way, maybe I should just leave it and use it as a Theremin
Strange interface for a sound application though.
    A novelty.
