Default update ************* up my system

    Hi all,

After a reboot the system won't boot into X anymore
sax2 won't load and startx is also not working
I get the next error :

failed to load module "type1" (module does not exist, 0)
failed to load module "dri2" (module does not exist, 0)
AIGLX error dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so failed
    cannot open shared object file
GLX could not load software renderer

Can someone please help me to fix this ??

Note the sax2 command must be run with root permissions, so type "su" first (entering root password)

As in interim driving booting to X with the vesa driver, as documented here:
SDB:Black screen after boot - openSUSE

    if "sax2 -m 0=vesa" doesn't work, you can also try "sax2 -r -m 0=vesa"

Note the "0=" assumes you have only one graphic device. If you have two graphic devices, then it may be necessary to use "sax2 -m 1=vesa" or "sax2 -r -m 1=vesa".

You can check your graphic devices by trying:
    sax2 -p

When you type sax2, precisely what are you typing? Are you typing it with root permissions?

Note often if you only type "sax2" by itself with no input arguments, it won't work. That is why in the examples given, we have specified specific arguments to use. Please read carefully the link I passed to you. Also the command is NOT "sax".

There's also the issue of it being quite normal for the graphics driver needing to be re-installed after a kernel update, especially if it wasn't installed from a repository via Yast

People may be better able to help if you give a little info on what card it is, the driver and/or how you went about installing it to begin with

    Hi all,

    I did as root in runlevel 3 sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
Then the server is trying to start:

    SaX: startup

xc: sorry could not start configuration server
xc: for details refer to the logfile...
    xc: abort

A part of the logfile is posted in the topicstart
I have a nvidia 5700 LE card and i'am using the standard
    installed driver (nv) no 3d

How about the remainder of the commands from here: SDB:Black screen after boot - openSUSE that you were asked to read/run.

    ie
    sax2 -a
    sax2 -l

also, can you provide output of:
    sax2 -p

Can you advise more exactly what you have tried? Trying to find out what you attempted is very difficult (because you are handing out only small pieces of information out at a time), and it is slowing down the help in which you receive.

An option might be to download the correct driver using a live disto cd like knoppix, save the file to your /home/username

then start in level3 as root
    cd to /home/username
    then
    sh NVIDIA {TAB}to auto complete

this assumes you have other needed packages such a gcc, make etc,..
