update kernel and updates

Hi all,

I am using opensuse11 and did an update using software updater. This worked fine!!! I then rebooted the machine as requested It logged in to a kde session fine but then when I came back the machine it had locked the desktop so I rebooted the machine again and unable to log into opensuse even from the console it doesn't recognise my username so i tried root that didnt work either is there a way i can fix this without reinstalling again??

I was also installing LTSP which is when I lost my login.

I have deleted Opensuse and am reinstalling.
