Default I am getting soooo tired.....

Sorry for this post in advance, but I can't take it any longer....

Very, very rarely I use Vista for some gaming.
You know, when you didn't use this "fantastic" system for a while, it needs some updates.
After a half hour updating and -of course- ten times rebooting, I can finally start a game.

    That's not the worst...
Last time it needed an update just for the time zone.
After installing this enormous update, there was this message:

"Update is finished, the system will be rebooted" (counting down from 10 sec.)
    WHY??? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH....

Can you imagine: Suse asking for a reboot after an update for time zone???

    I hate that with Windows.

Sometimes I just hit ignore and play games on there. Especially if I don't need to go online I could just cut the net connection and who cares if there are security flaws to XP that are unpatched.

when you go 6 months to a year between boots of Windows it gets so you have a lot of patches and far to many reboots to get it done. Especially if it has been a while since the last service pack

I turn off automatic updates. I'll update the stupid thing when I think it needs it. I hate operating systems telling be what to do!

Unless you absolutely need DirectX 10, I wouldn't use Vista for gaming. Your games will run much faster on XP.

That's true, XP is the less worst Windows vesion.
I have XP on an other computer, Vista I use indeed for the DirectX - games.
But I've had already several moments that I was so tired of Vista, that I rebooted the computer and started Suse, opened Yast -> partitioning; marked the vista-part for formatting -> apply -> and then you get the red warning message with "are you sure?"
and on the last moment I decided not to do this...
(I think that the feeling that I can wipe out Vista on that moment with one mouse-click, is already satisfying enough... )

I remember those days! I haven't had any version of Windows at home
since 2000 and even have a job now where the boss refuses to support
*any* Windows boxes. Life just doesn't get any sweeter than that! ;-)

I learned to turn off those stupid updates the hard way.

After playing my game (Empire Earth, and no it doesn't work under wine/cedega unfortunately), I went to shutdown Vista.

It refused to shutdown, and insisted that it download "important updates".

So I left it running overnight as I was tired and wanted to go to sleep.

It finished (I assume!), and shut itself down.

The next time I came to play my game, Vista wouldn't start, it was complaining about a missing win.com!!!!

I had to backup 80 gigs of Linux stuff before using the restore disk just in case (which I fully expected it to do!!) it wiped the entire disk in order to restore vista.

After that fiasco automatic updates were turned off permanently.

I mean, it's not like I really need or care about "security" updates as I only use it for playing that one game, and I never use it on the internet.

    Man was I angry!
