Thread: Samba sharing problem.

  1. #1

    Default Samba sharing problem.

    Hi.

I have SuSE 10.3 and SAMBA instaled. I have shared some folders on Windows box with R/W permisions and I can access them from SuSE (everything is like it should be).

Later on... I have shared a folder on SuSE and tried to open shares from Windows, but no luck.

When I try to access them, Windows XP is asking me for user name and password to access shares on SuSE. I can open SuSE box (from Windows>RUN>\\%computername%)and I can see all shared folders, but can't access them.

I have supplied SuSE local account credentials, but it's asking me to re-enter credentials, like they are wrong or non existing.

    What to do?

P.S. New to Linux and I'm sorry if my english is bad...

    TNX

    Kojo...

Check your folder permission that can be accessed by who.
Also, try to use you user account of suse to login from windows client.

You need to add your users to samba.

As root, run: "smbpasswd -a <username>" (no quotes), it will prompt for a
password. The <username> must have a local account, but the password can
be different from the logon password. This all works best if the
<username> <password> pair you enter here is the same as the Windows
    <username> <password> pair.

    Kojo;

Glad to see you got it going. Samba has some very good documentation that
should be on your machine; look in /usr/share/doc/packages/samba.
