on my maschine (hp compaq 8510p) the bcm4312 was recognized correctly,
please check lsmod if b43 has been loaded. Only loading the driver is
not enough to make it work - you'll have to obtain the firmware from a
windows driver, too, which is not redistributed because of copyright
issues. If you have a working Internet connection, try:

    sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

    Otherwise, try:

    less /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

and do what the script tries to do manually :-)

    Cheers, Lothar

There is a sticky at the beginning of network-internet/wireless that tells you
what to do if you do not have Internet access in Linux.

I don't know if I made a mistake writing in a thread started in 2008, but I would like to say "thanks!" because it's been helpful also for me:

the following comand works also for me (Broadcom BCM4312 on Lenovo B550 with openSuse 13.1)

I made the mistake of trying to use other kernel than the stock kernel provided by openSuSE and ran into some hell every time there was a kernel update and I could not use the ones provided packman. Finally I bit the bullet and downgraded my kernel back and everything worked like magic. Just a reminder to people who is reading this thread or happen to stumble upon it.
