Thread: NAS software for openSuSE

    Default NAS software for openSuSE

Is there any software out there that gives openSuSE some sort of gui (web or x-window related) to manage tools that give the user a NAS like usability.

I currently do use my suse 10.3 box as a NAS, but it gets a little cumbersome sometimes keeping track of all the users, samba shares, NFS exports...
Yast is partly there but I'm looking for something with the ease of use of something like FreeNAS or OpenFiler...

    Any ideas?

    Hi
Have you looked at webmin for managing samba? Just download the noarch
    rpm from here;

Yah, I've used webmin... I guess that kinda fits the bill... but it's not quite as elegant as some of the other OSs I mentioned in the original post.

I guess I am looking for something to simplify the management of running a NAS on my suse box. All the software is already there, it's just a matter of the right interface to make it all a breeze to use.

Not my English is very good, but I will try.
I've been looking for a NAS software for openSUSE, or similar to freeNAS OpenFile.

    Any idea.

    1. go to http://software.opensuse.org/search
    2. type OpenFile in the search box
    3. select your openSUSE version
    4. Click "Seach"
    5. Have fun

and, your english is GREAT! welcome!!

OpenSuse has included samba and NFS file servers for a long time. Both
can run on the same box, serving up the same directory tree. You can
also add many choices for authentication as well. Just what exactly
    do you want to do?

My guess (?) is that there is a desire for a NAS appliance like config.
For example, a web browser interface that allows you to setup the "NAS".
In all fairness, if you can skip the other parts, you can do a lot of
    this with YaST though.

    (just guessing)
