    Default NNTP-Peering with support-forums.novell.com possible?

    Hi,

as a newsadmin I'm interrested in NNTP peering the novell.* and
opensuse.* hierarchies and offering them to my users.

Is it possible to establish a feed for my site? And if not, are there other
feeds around to peer these hierarchies with?

    Thanks,

I'm not quiet sure I understand your question, but let's say I do...

Why don't you just set up an NNTP server with LeafNode, and lets you users
    fetch/pst on that ?
All you need is an old beast with a very small HD and even less RAM.

That's basically what I (and lots of other people) are doing allready.
I combine feeds from USENET with those from Novell. My Newsreader sees all
groups together, coming from my newsserver.

    You did not. Sorry

I'm using leafnode since years here at home/office. But thank you.

That's exactly what I'm doing here for my personal needs.

    For calification:
I would like to offer the opensuse.* and novell.* hierarchies to my
    customers/users. I'm the newsmaster of news://news.visyn.net (aka
    news://news3.open-news-network.org ). Therefore I was asking for a
realtime NNTP feed for one of my servers.

    Please have a look at
    http://www.visyn.net/newsserver (only in German, sorry)
http://www.open-news-network.org (some pages available in English)

    OK ... :-)

    German is not a problem.

But I see the kind of need you have, now.
    Thanks for the clarification.

Unofficially (since I'm not in a position to answer officially), I can't
see this happening - someone would have to manage the feeds on the Novell
side. I would stick to using leafnode. If they set up a feed for you,
they'd have to set up a feed for anyone who asks, which takes time,
configuration, monitoring (in case the feed breaks for some reason), etc.

Thumbs down Re: NNTP-Peering with support-forums.novell.com possible?

Thanks for the inquiry, but as a matter of policy, Novell does not feed nor accept feeds from other servers. This policy allows us to control things like spam and access when we need to as well as ensures that anyone that *thinks* they are interacting on the Novell system *is* interacting on the Novell system. A number of services pull our data which you are welcome to do, but we won't set up a feed.

Thank you for this statement. I see your point.

Okay, so I also will consider a suck feed.

    And thanks again for responding.

No problem. Easy questions like that I'm capable of handling.
